How do safety reports work?
Updated over a month ago

Is my concern worth reporting?

Yes! It's always best to err on the side of sharing—even if it turns out to be something the safety team doesn't act on immediately, it will help add context for them to understand how to best support the person in the future.

What happens when I share a concern?

There are two layers of potential actions in response to a safety report. If your concern is very straightforward (like someone sharing personal contact information), our automated system may take immediate action to hide the message and remind the offending person of our guidelines. However, if your concern is more serious, complex or context-dependent, the system will escalate it so that our safety team can look into it more closely, to consider the situation, the community member’s history at Schoolhouse, and any warnings we’ve already given them. We’ll then follow our policies to address the behavior, which may include monitoring the person more closely, giving them a warning, suspending them temporarily, or suspending them permanently.

Will the person know I shared a concern about them?

We keep all the tips we get highly confidential, and let people know they were flagged without mentioning whether it was by our automatic system or by a reporter. If it looks like it will be difficult to hide your identity, we’ll talk with you first to ensure that you’re comfortable with whatever is shared.
