Schoolhouse uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) in several places to support learners and tutors. We think AI has tremendous potential for expanding access and opportunity in education, as outlined in Sal Khan’s book, Brave New Words.
Whenever AI is used, it is for the benefit of learners and tutors, and we do not share personally identifiable information from your Schoolhouse account with AI providers. The AI providers do not train their models on the data. We also incorporate humans in the loop whenever possible, so that the AI is not making final decisions by itself.
Here are a few examples of how Schoolhouse uses AI:
Providing tutors with automated feedback after their tutoring sessions (based on session recordings) so that they can improve as tutors and deliver an even better educational experience for learners; this feedback tool also leverages AI-powered text-to-speech technology
AI-powered content moderation so that unhelpful or unsafe content is taken off the platform as soon as possible
Research studies that test the benefits of AI tools on tutor and learner outcomes and help us improve the tools going forward
