Dialogue Club (10 sessions)

Saturdays 10:00 PM, Saturdays 9:00 PM

Welcome to our Dialogue Club! We are thrilled to have you join us for our engaging discussions! Our focus will be on the themes that emerge from topics that tackle social and political issues, reflecting ongoing debates about equality, rights, and societal change. These discussions will explore how society addresses complex challenges and more! Dialogue Clubs meet every other week to discuss a new topic. By participating in 3 or more Dialogue sessions, you will receive a ~Dialogue portfolio~ that you can submit with your college applications to our university partners. Here are the themes we will be covering during our time together, related to individual freedoms, systemic structures, and technological advancements, all while balancing competing values such as justice, equity, and progress: - Immigration (Session 1) - Affirmative Action (Session 2) - Free Speech vs. Hate Speech (Session 3) - Addressing Racism (Session 4) - Abortion (Session 5) - Climate Change (Session 6) - The Future of Media (Session 7) - Artificial Intelligence (Session 8) - Mental Health (Session 9) - Student Debt (Session 10) We look forward to the insightful conversations and diverse perspectives that each of you will bring to our Dialogue Club. Together, we’ll explore these important issues, deepen our understanding, and contribute to meaningful discussions that shape the future. Thank you for being part of this exciting journey!

Dialogue Session

    Starts

In this session, we will be discussing income inequality and using [this discussion guide](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nYordFsme427otxfVAzyhm67vs26hgrK/view?usp=sharing). We will explore questions like: What drives poverty? What is the best way to reduce income inequality? How should we think about solutions like raising taxes vs. deregulation? How does income inequality vary in different countries? Welcome to [Dialogues](https://schoolhouse.world/dialogues)! Here’s some helpful information to help you prepare for your session: 📌 Session introduction: At the start of the session, the event host will provide some introductory remarks about how the session will work and tips for discussion. 🧩 Discussion partner matching: All participants will be matched with a conversation partner to discuss with. If there are uneven numbers, you may have two conversation partners. 🤝 Breakout discussions: After the session introduction, everyone will switch to their breakout discussion. Your discussion will be unmoderated, so you can start when your partner arrives in the new Zoom link. 🗺️ Discussion Guide: You will have a topic-specific discussion guide for the session to help guide conversation. ⏰ Session length: The breakout discussions are scheduled for 45 minutes but you can discuss as long as you want! ✅ Stay on topic: Please make sure to stay on topic. If you and your partner run out of things to discuss, it’s okay to end the discussion early. You will not be returning to the main group when your conversation is over. 🤔 Make the discussion your own: You probably won’t have time to answer all the guide questions so pick and choose! Feel free to also bring in your own questions and ideas outside of the guide. 📝 Survey: A mandatory survey will appear at the end of your session to fill out. This must be filled out for you to get credit for the session in your Dialogues portfolio. 🤸‍♂️ Have fun: There is no preparation needed for this event. These conversations are meant to be casual, in addition to being meaningful. We hope you enjoy it!
