Series Details

About

I plan to cover the basic principles, as well as tips I have learned along the way, in mastering realism (subjects being people and animals) and developing those drawings to look better than real life. We will have 6 main sections of the class: introduction/drawing composition, basics for realism in graphite, basics for realism in color, enhancing realism in graphite, enhancing realism in color, and final project assignment/worktime/presentation. Learners should expect to actively be drawing each class, using a sketchbook/white printer paper, pencil (2B is recommended but HB absolutely works), and colored pencils (I will be using Prismacolor but even Crayola is fine as long as it is 24+ count). Learners should also have access to a good eraser (kneaded is best but pencil cap eraser + big eraser duo totally works), sharpener, ruler, photography device can take and display pictures, and flat, well-lit surface to work on.

Tutor Qualifications

I absolutely adore drawing and have been doing summer art classes for the past 2 years. I'm especially experienced in graphite and colored pencils and love drawing people, animals, and flowers, though I do dabble in the occasional landscape!

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

The only sessions that are mandatory are the introduction/composition session, the final project launch, and the final project completion/presentation. The other sessions (basics, enhancing, and worktime) are all up to your own discretion to attend, though they will be laden in lessons and tips to aid in drawing your final project.

If you decide to attend an enhancing session, keep note that it will build off of skills practiced in the basics session of that medium. Therefore, make sure to attend the basics session or have experience in drawing in realism with that medium to be successful in the enhancing session.

These rules make sure that everyone comes out of this series with a finished product that they are proud of, showcasing all that they have learnt. However, amendments and accommodations may be made for those with schedule conflicts if they contact me.

Session 1

Orientation

Today, we're getting to know everyone and their drawing preferences before delving into a mini lesson on piece composition and photography (specifically for people and animals). Try to have a have some sort of camera handy to practice taking pictures (though if you don't have a camera, online pictures can be used to practice composition too). Be ready to take lots of notes! It would be lovely if you could turn your camera on to showcase your work and get detailed advice, but it is not required.
