About

Diving into the world of complex numbers is exciting and easier than you think! Whether you're studying for school or here just for your curiosity, everyone who's willing to learn will be able to gain from this series! We'll go through everything from Khan Academy's Complex Numbers unit, starting from the basics of what a complex number is. Each session, we'll be running through theory, examples, and we'll have lots of practice problems for you to try! No precalculus knowledge is required -- if you have no idea what an imaginary or complex number even is (or what the difference is), this is an excellent place for you to learn! A solid knowledge of algebra and basic trigonometry (sine, cosine, tangent, radians) are recommended but not required. By the end of this four-session series, you will have learned lots about complex numbers and when and how to use them!

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

You are strongly recommended to attend all sessions. If you're unable to make a session, please message the tutor. You will be withdrawn from the series if you miss two sessions without giving the tutor prior notice.

Complex numbers

An introduction to complex numbers, starting from the origins and the basics. You will learn: - what the number i is - what a complex number is and why it exists - how to plot complex numbers on the complex plane - how to graphically add and subtract complex numbers - how to compute the distance and midpoint of complex numbers Covers everything up to Quiz 1 of the complex numbers unit in precalculus on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:complex). Please come prepared to think and learn! Paper and pencil may be useful but are not required.

Complex numbers

More operations with complex numbers, including complex conjugates, division, and sum of squares. You will learn: - what a complex conjugate is and why we use them - how to divide complex numbers by real OR complex numbers - how to factor a sum of squares - how to factor any polynomial to find real, imaginary, and complex roots! Covers everything up to Quiz 2 of the complex numbers unit in precalculus on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:complex). Please come prepared to think and learn! Paper and pencil may be useful but are not required.

Getting a fresh perspective on complex numbers with the introduction of polar form. You will learn: - what a modulus and argument are, and how to find them - a different (and sometimes better) way to visualize complex numbers -- polar form! - how to plot complex numbers on a circular plane Covers everything up to Quiz 3 of the complex numbers unit in precalculus on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:complex). Complex numbers

A visual exploration of multiplication, division, and exponentiation of complex numbers -- this is my favorite session of them all, as we'll be watching some animations which will bring what you've been learning to life! You will learn: - how to graphically multiply complex numbers - how to multiply and divide complex numbers in polar form - how to take powers of complex numbers Covers everything up to Quiz 4 of the complex numbers unit in precalculus on Khan Academy (https://www.khanacademy.org/math/precalculus/x9e81a4f98389efdf:complex).
