About

This series is designed for beginners in complex numbers who enjoy learning through doing and having discussions, and for learners who have already studied this topic but would like to refresh their knowledge and deepen their understanding. We will start by looking at the origins of the imaginary unit, and how we can do arithmetic with it, which leads us into the world of complex numbers. We will also look at how we can represent them geometrically, like we can with real numbers, as well as many other topics within complex numbers. Of course, a major reason why many learners dislike mathematics is because it seems as if what they are learning has no real life applications. We will, therefore, discuss some real life applications of complex numbers as a part of our sessions.

About the Tutor

I'm a 14 year old in the UK with a strong passion for mathematics and computer science. While I am 14 years old, I am studying at a Year 13 (12th Grade) level in mathematics. I am joining Schoolhouse since I would like to help students in higher-level mathematics. I enjoy teaching very much - I tutor mathematics to students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds in the UK and India.

Session 3

Complex numbers

We will look at how we can perform basic arithmetic with complex numbers, and how we can plot them on an Argand diagram (an equivalent of the real number line, but for complex numbers instead of real numbers).
