About

Is genre a construct? A marketing label intended to box in readers? Or are genres actually a helpful device?

Whatever your opinion, this book club will dive deep into different literary genres to try to answer these questions—and have fun! Each session will start by discussing our current reads. Then, we'll explore the genre for the week! Not only will we share recommendations, we'll also talk about the conventions of the genre and whether it's real… whatever that means.

Notes:
  • This is a loose book club without a book each week and is instead meant to provide a place for enthusiastic readers to discuss books!
  • This is not an academic book club and is meant to be a fun and informative discussion of genres!
  • Books discussed may have varying recommended age levels, but I will provide content warnings for every book and will not be discussing the mature topics explicitly at any time.
  • More sessions may be added!

About the Tutor

I'm a high school student on the US East Coast! I'm currently tutoring SAT bootcamps in both reading and math, but I've also tutored in the Algebra 1 and Enrichment (Korean and book club) subworlds as well! I'm looking for help with calculus (IB A&A SL 2) and physics (IB Physics SL 1). Outside tutoring, I love to knit, read, and spend time with family!
