About

Salvete omnes! (Hello all!) This series is sort of a continuation of my summer camp from last couple summers but is welcome to all new learners. I'll spend some time reviewing what we've discussed in the summer camp, and then moving on to a bunch of new stuff! Every week, there will be two sessions. The session earlier in the week, typically Monday evenings, we will be learning some Latin grammar, doing some translation, and basically learning all about the language. In the second session which is later in the week, typically Saturday mornings, we will be reading some short stories in Latin, mostly about Roman and Greek mythology, and Roman history, and I'll walk you through how to get an understanding of the story even if you can't completely understand the Latin (I will also be providing the English translation). Some of these stories will be the same ones from last year, but I'll also be trying out some new ones!

Tutor Qualifications

I have taken Latin formally for 5 years, including AP Latin, with a classical focus, and have had some experience for 8 years. I am also taking a college class this summer focusing more on ecclesiastical Latin. I've run this series for the past couple of summers to great reviews. I also have written some Latin poetry in my free time!

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Feel free to only attend the set of sessions you are interested in; you can come only Mondays, only Saturdays, or both! Keep in mind, however, that these sessions may build on each other week to week, so if you typically come Mondays and miss a Monday, let me know, and the same for Saturdays.

About the Tutor

Hi everyone, my name is Sophia, and I’m a college sophomore from Pennsylvania, double majoring in music education and mathematics. In high school I took AP Calculus AB and BC, AP Physics 1, and AP Music Theory, as well as a few others. When I’m not playing my piano, bassoon, or guitar, I can be found reading, cooking, volunteering at my local horse barn, or binge-watching Star Trek! I love to learn and get that "eureka" moment, and I’m really excited to help others do the same. Can’t wait to meet you all!
