About the Tutor

Hi, I am Mia a rising high school senior from New York! I am here to help tutor students in AP United States History! I know this can be daunting class, but I want to make sure everyone feels confident in assignments, and prepared for the AP Exam! I received a 5 on my APUSH exam this spring, and I want to help you do the same! Tutoring sessions will specifically focus on MCQ and SAQ prep, and structured DBQ and LEQ thesis writing and structure workshops, helping you maximize your points!

Course introduction. Overview of AP Exam format and what is expected in an AP United States History Class. Brief overview of APUSH period 1 followed by a series of practice MCQ's.

US History

Warm up with Multiple-Choice practice questions. Review MCQ's and strategies to approach MCQ style questions. Overview of Short Answer Questions, complete a practice example question from Unit 1.

US History

Comprehensive review of APUSH periods 1&2, focusing on major themes of the content necessary for success of incoming AP US History students in the fall. Go over DBQ and LEQ structure and work in group to formulate argumentative thesis statements for both DBQ and LEQ prompts, using knowledge from periods 1&2.

Timed MCQ and SAQ practice and review. Review of test taking strategies to break down MCQ and SAQ questions to maximize points. Practice creating an outline for an LEQ prompts from units 1&2.

Document Based Question review session. Focus on overall structure of DBQ, breaking down the rubric, based on what each section means and how to earn the points. Do practice examples for sourcing of documents. Finish with creating an argumentative thesis for DBQ prompt and create an outline of body paragraphs using documents.

Introduce period 3. Comprehensive overview of periods content and major themes. End with MCQ and SAQ practice questions on units 2-3.

Thesis statement workshop. Work on formulating an argumentative thesis, specifically focused on creating a thesis statement with a nuanced argument, to earn the complexity point. Do a series of example DBQ and LEQ prompts and work on identifying and breaking down what each question is asking.

Timed Mini mock exam including a multiple choice section and Short Answer Question section, focusing on periods 1&2 and early parts of period 3. Review practice test, and discuss any topics or questions that may have arisen.
