About

*Series requested by previous learners* This will be an introductory series to Algebra 1. We will do a comprehensive review of each subtopic of Algebra 1 from algebra foundations to quadratic functions every week. We will be covering the whole Algebra 1 KA unit with some things discussed outside of Khan Academy. There are no prerequisites, but some prior knowledge of pre-algebra (factors and multiples, percentages, ratios and proportions, etc.) would be beneficial. Please feel free to explore the whole unit if you wish: https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra Here is also the link to the folder of all of the topics we have covered so far: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Q1CZFRO4NNNDbe_ngvvkzIHSQGQE_zfJ?usp=sharing *More sessions will be added over time :)

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Although there is no strict attendance policy, it is recommended that learners attend every session since the concepts will build on each other. Missing 5 consecutive sessions without communicating with the tutor could lead to withdrawal. However, learners could ask for make-up sessions if they so desired.

Session 1

Orientation

We'll get acquainted with one another and we will discuss the schedule for this series. It's alright if you can't make it to this session, though your presence would be greatly welcomed. I will also introduce some topics (Set Notation, and Real Numbers) which I think would be fundamental for Algebra 1 :))

Sep

Session 2

Solving equations & inequalities

We will be solving equations and some word problems involving them (Integer, age mixture, money problems, etc.). Inequalities will be explored in the subsequent session, To see your assignments, I will be sending the link to my slides after each session. Catch-up sessions are always available when needed!
16
Sep

Session 3

Algebra foundations

Hello-please consider this as a rerun of our last session. We will be covering some algebra foundations (distributive property, combining like terms, etc.) and solve practice problems to really strengthen the understanding of the topic.
17
Sep

Session 4

Other Topics

We will cover some algebra foundations (distributive property, combining like terms, exponent rules) and solve practice problems to strengthen the understanding of the topic. We will also do a brief introduction to equations and inequalities.

Sep

Session 5

Solving equations & inequalities

We will cover equations, and inequalities and get introduced to multi-step inequalities and compound inequalities. I will be sending the link to my slides after each session. Catch-up sessions are always available when needed!

Session 6

Catchup

We will be doing a quick catch-up on inequalities before we start on word problems tomorrow

Session 7

Working with units

We will be tackling unit conversion and dimensional analysis. As usual, I will be sending the link to my slides after each session. Catch-up sessions are always available when needed!

Session 9

Linear equations & graphs

We will first start by introducing the Cartesian coordinate system and locating points on a plane. Then, we will cover two-variable linear equations in the subsequent sessions.

Session 10

Linear equations & graphs

*Continuation of the last session* The graphs of linear equations will be introduced in this lesson. We will talk about the slope and intercepts of a line. As always, I will be sharing the link to my presentations after the session and catch-up sessions are available!

Session 11

Other Topics

This session will be dedicated mainly to practice problems. We will be deriving the slope of each line in a given graph. We will also be writing and graphing lines from a given slope and y-intercept.

Session 13

Catchup

Catch-up session requested by Samprita- We will solving the deriving the equations of vertical and horizontal lines, derive intercepts from graphs, equations and tables. This is just a rerun of our most recent session so if you have previously attended, attendance is not necessary but it’s still greatly appreciated!
