About

This is the speech part of "Speech and Debate." An Extemporaneous Speech is where you only have 30 minutes to research, write, and memorize a 7 minute speech based on current affairs. In this series my goal is to convert a complete beginner into someone who can write an entire 7 minute speech in 30 minutes and can work towards memorizing it in that time too! Throughout this session, I will go over the basic structure of an Extemp speech, how substructure plays in, and how to research and memorize effectively. We will do several drills too! *No prior experience required! Just bring a paper, pen, and preferably a laptop so that you can research!*

Please do not miss more than 2 sessions since they will almost always build off of each other. Be sure to message me prior if you can't make it and we can schedule a makeup session!

Hey! I'm a incoming sophomore in highschool. I'm here as a volunteer/tutor. In my free time I like to read, podcast, write, and spend time with my family! I love teaching and just helping out in any way I can, which is why I'm here. I also love to learn new things and conquer new opportunities!

Orientation

To start off we will get to know each other & do some ice breakers. Afterwards I'll tell you what exactly is an Extemp speech, show you examples, and go over what I intend to cover in this series. In the end we might do some drills based on how much time we have left

Enrichment

We will go over the basic structure of an Extemp speech & how to effectively write your flow. We will also end up prepping an intro to start off based on the structure through which you get instant feedback on how you write your flow!

Enrichment

Fun speech drills! Today will be a break from learning the logistics of an extemp speech! We will be doing filibusters and some other extempy drills!

Enrichment

Starting off we will review what we learned in the previous sessions and do a small drill. After, I will dive a little more into the substructure for your points and how you can implement that into your speech! After learning, we will do a group practice to make sure everyone understands!

Enrichment

We will start off with a small review on what we learned in prior sessions and then transition into writing a full speech in 20 minutes or less! You will then show me your flow and get instant feedback.

Catchup

For any missed sessions! Highly recommended you join if you missed something... chances are missing it put you behind... this will help out a lot in such cases! You can join if you want extra practice too!

Enrichment

Memorizing! Today I will teach you how to best memorize your speech in 15 minutes or less. We will do some drills to help improve fluency and memory! (If time permits, other drills will be implemented into the session.)

Review

This session will be a complete review on everything we've done so far. The final prep before the last session/the final speech! Last chance to ask questions, go over final things, and of course do a couple more drills if time permits!

Enrichment

Finale! We will put together everything we have learned in this series by prepping and memorizing a full speech! (You will be performing it, whether it be only in front of me or in front of everyone!) -- You can leave the meet once you've given your speech!
