About

What will you get out of this session:

In this session, we’ll tackle every major concept from AP Biology Unit 2, giving you a solid understanding of the intricacies of cells, their structures, and functions. After covering the big-picture ideas, we’ll break each down into smaller, digestible pieces to deepen our conceptual understanding. By the end, we’ll go over a set of Practice Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs) and Free Response Questions (FRQs) to test your knowledge and help solidify your grasp of the material.

Important Reminder:

This session is interactive and dynamic, so please stay engaged! Open your microphone, ask questions, and discuss ideas with your peers. The more we communicate, the more successful this session will be for everyone!

Hello guys! My name is Jiarui but you can call me Jerry. I am a Junior from Upstate New York. My favorite subjects are math and biology. In terms of my progress for the two subjects, I finished high school biology in 8th grade and just finished AP Calculus AB and AP Biology during my Sophomore year. During my Junior year, I will be taking Calculus II (AP Calculus BC) and AP Chemistry to help me understand more about math and biology. I'm very excited to meet all of you! Best of luck in your future life! What do I mainly teach: Algebra 1, AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB/BC (really just high school to AP level math/science in general). You can check my certifications out and direct message me if you have any questions regarding the subjects I am certified in! Ex: possible lessons, or just general questions.

Sat 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM UTCDec 28, 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM UTC

Learning Objectives:

  • Cell Organelles and Their Functions: Explore the structure and roles of key organelles and how they contribute to cellular processes.

  • Endosymbiosis Hypothesis: Understand the theory that explains the origin of certain organelles like mitochondria and chloroplasts, and their relationship with prokaryotic cells.

  • Membrane Structure and Transport: Learn about the structure of the plasma membrane, what can and cannot cross it, and the mechanisms of passive and active transport, including water potential and osmolarity.

  • Compartmentalization and Surface Area: Examine the advantages of compartmentalization within cells and how surface area-to-volume ratio affects cellular efficiency and function.
