About

Welcome to the series! I have decided to change up the way we will be doing this to make it easier for me to organize and for students to understand what we are doing each week. Here's the new format: 1. Each week, I will post assignments both to our classroom in Duolingo, as well as to the group chat in our schoolhouse.world page. Please try to complete these before the assigned due dates. 2. On Wednesdays, we will go through some Duolingo lessons as a group. Afterwards, we will practice what we learned in those lessons via conversation. 3. On Saturdays, we will continue to practice what we learned in those lessons via conversation. Please sign up for a Duolingo account, and join our classroom here: www.duolingo.com/classroom/kvgaju I will see you on Wednesday!

Tutor Qualifications

I have taken the STAMP language proficiency exam in Japanese and received credit for 4 years of high school classes (the max amount of credits my high school would offer me for the test.) Also, I am certified bilingual in English and Japanese by the state of Oregon.

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

Right now, we are basically starting over with a new, better organized format, so you can join even if you haven't come to any previous sessions!

Orientation

Please fill out this survey before attending, if you haven't already: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/10XYEZPElE8cZAigp8CcpQ8DciLY9DTQsrTNB0L68bi4/edit It will help me to gauge how to structure the course! I am planning on teaching some basic expressions (hello, goodbye, my name is x, etc.). If, however, everyone is already familiar with those, we can move on to some more basic expressions like (noun is adjective, and noun is noun), and learn some basic vocabulary.

Session 8

Review

Today, we will review some topics I covered in one of the past sessions: how to say "noun is noun", "noun is adjective", "noun is not noun", and "noun is not adjective", and how to turn all of those expressions into questions, i.e. "Is the noun adjective?" After I teach each of the rules, we will put it into practice by making sentences.

Session 13

Orientation

This is the first lesson that uses the new format. Here's what we'll be doing: 1. Everyone will make an account on Duolingo. (For privacy reasons, please do not use your full name on Duolingo.) If you have trouble with this, please let me know and I will help you. 2. (optional) Join my classroom here on Duolingo so that you can see weekly asisgnments: www.duolingo.com/classroom/kvgaju 3. We will go through lessons on Duolingo together. Because I have been told by many students that they still don't feel comfortable enough with hiragana to read it without romanization, we will start with Hiragana 1. :) Please see my post in the group chat for the roadmap/course schedule!
