Series Details

About

Let's discover the fascinating world of astronomy by exploring the planets and dwarf planets of our solar system! PART 1 (Planets): Each session will be focused on a different planet. We will start with Mercury, the planet closest to the Sun, and work our way out to Neptune, the planet farthest from the sun! We will be meeting on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at the same time of day for every session. PART 2 (Dwarf Planets): Each session will be focused on a different dwarf planet. We will be learning all about the five official dwarf planets: Ceres, Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Eris. We will be meeting for the dwarf planet sessions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Tutor Qualifications

I am an amateur astronomer who has read several books on astronomy. I have always been interested in the solar system in which we live. I own an 80mm Celestron refractor telescope which I have used to observe Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and the Moon.

About the Tutor

Hey there! I'm Joe, a college freshman with a strong passion for math, computer science, and education. I have been homeschooled all the way through high school and currently reside in Oregon, USA. I'm glad to be a part of this wonderful community! I'm here to learn what I don't know and teach what I do know! I can tutor in any math topic ranging from pre-algebra to calculus, with a particular enthusiasm for geometry and trigonometry. I scored 790 on the Math section of the SAT, so I'm equipped to help with SAT Math prep as well. In addition to being a tutor here at Schoolhouse, I serve as a Geometry Subworld Moderator and a Tutor Coach. I was previously an SAT Bootcamp Guide and a member of the Welcoming Team. For fun I enjoy computer programming, keeping up with tech innovations, playing chess, solving Rubik's Cubes, stargazing with my refractor telescope, playing pickleball, and hiking the scenic trails of Oregon. I look forward to working with you!
