About

Through this series, we will be investigating poetry through the lease of social change: How can our words have an impact on the earth that we live on? We will be taking a look at several historical events and activism movements to base our analysis around, and then practice writing our own poetry as well. You will be an expert by the end of this course! This session is for all, no prior experience in poetry is needed.

Tutor Qualifications

I am a published author of three novels, and am an honour roll student, with distinction in English literary studies.

Please let me know if you will be absent. If you have two unexcused absences in a row, you will be withdrawn from the series.

Hello everyone! My name is Mason, and I am a first year university student studying International Relations in Canada. I am a published author and aspiring diplomat! I was an IB student in high school and excelled in IB Geography, IB History, and IB English. Schoolhouse.World has been my home since 2021, and I cannot wait to continue spreading my knowledge about English, History, and other subjects to my students. :)

Theme: Anti-Sikh Riots and Golden Temple Invasion of 1984 Poet: Harnidh Kaur We will be talking about the issues which the Sikh minority face in India, and their fight for independence through peaceful means and actions. We will also share our poetry about injustices.

Review

In this session, learners will have a few moments to prepare a poet which they want to present to the group. We will look at one selected piece by this poet and discuss what mechanisms they used to make their poem impactful.

Theme: Stonewall Riots We will look at poetry during the Stonewall Riots and talk about the issues which LGBTQIA2S+ individuals face to this day. We will then take a look at our poetry and talk about some more tips and tricks for writing.
