The tutor demonstrates a deep understanding of the content, clearly explaining the FOIL method, factoring differences of squares, and handling various polynomials with different coefficients. The tutor effectively uses multiple examples and checks the student's understanding throughout the session.

The tutor frequently checks for understanding by asking questions such as "What do we multiply first?" and follows up with hints and feedback. The session included active participation from the learner with questions and interactions that engaged them in the process. There were also moments where the tutor had the learner complete parts of the problem, which keeps the session dynamic and involved.

Thanks for the session and I love the way you explain

Thank you Colston!

The tutor did check whether the learners wanted him to make up practice problems or if he should show them practice problems. The tutor adapted to the learners' unique needs by asking if the learner wanted to share any practice problems. This was because the learner had extensive knowledge that the tutor wasn't exactly able to provide practice for. Though the tutor should probably prepare for more difficult questions regarding the topic for next time, he did a great job of ensuring that the learner got to practice with his explanations given the circumstances. One learner seemed well engaged in the session and a lot of the talking came from him. As for the other learner, it wasn't exactly clear if the learner was engaged as he did not speak in the session. Lastly, the tutor did tell one learner to try asking his questions in the subworld. On the other hand, giving the learners a little recap of what was covered in the session is something that could be improved upon :). Otherwise, great job!

Thank you for your help! What you said reminded me these are linear equations. These stressed me out, so I appreciate it.

You demonstrated a solid understanding of the material, particularly in explaining domain, range, and graphing concepts. Your ability to simplify complex ideas, such as continuous versus discrete functions and piecewise graphs, was evident throughout the session. For example, your explanation of how to identify the extremes of a graph and plot a line segment between them helped clarify the process for Jessica. Additionally, your use of interactive tools like screen sharing and encouraging Jessica to work through examples on her own paper fostered an engaging and collaborative learning environment. To further enhance your teaching, consider incorporating more visual aids or step-by-step written examples to support your verbal explanations.

There is clear evidence that Jessica made progress during this session. Initially unsure about plotting points and determining whether graphs represented functions, she gained confidence as the session progressed. By the end, she was able to correctly identify domain and range values, understand piecewise functions, and distinguish between continuous line segments and discrete points. For instance, she successfully plotted line segments for specific questions after your guidance and correctly identified that repeated Y values do not disqualify a graph from being a function.

The tutor was respectful and patient, offering encouragement throughout the session. There was a clear effort to make sure the student was comfortable with the content, explaining things multiple times if needed. This approach strengthened the learner's confidence in their ability to understand and apply factoring techniques. The interactions were respectful, appropriate, and focused on the learning objectives. The tutor provided clear, supportive guidance, ensuring that the environment was conducive to learning. There was no indication of any inappropriate content or interactions during the session.

it is really amazing learning from you

thank you a lot for your time you have provided to help me understand as mush as I can!

The tutor strengthened the learners' confidence through phrases like "That was quick!" and more. After seeing that the learner had a profound knowledge of the topic covered, the tutor also showed the learner that even being a tutor, it is still okay to learn some things from the learner! This was an amazing thing coming from the tutor and it is not easy to admit things like that :). The tutor cultivated a comfortable learning environment for the learner and made him feel like it was okay to make mistakes! My only suggestion is that for next time, just try to look at some difficult practice problems and prepare just a little more for the session!

The tutor was great at providing amazing visuals to aid the learner in practicing the topic, congruence theorems. He quickly made up practice problems on the spot with visuals drawn using the whiteboard tool. One learner seemed to have extensive knowledge of the topic covered in the session and was having an easy time answering the questions. Within the first 15 minutes, the tutor grasped this and asked the learner if the learner wanted to share any practice problems. This was the most effective way to go about such situations and the tutor did a great job navigating it! On the other hand, seeing this situation, I feel that next time, the tutor should prepare a little more to ensure that he can provide harder practice problems to correlate with the learner's corresponding expertise. However, he did do a good job with the knowledge he had on the topic by having the learner explain practice problems that the learner showed. Due to this circumstance, the tutor wasn't able to provide analogies or detailed explanations for the learner. For next time, just try to look at some harder practice problems and prepare just a little more! Another way to tackle such situations could be to find practice questions for the learner that are similar to the ones that the learner showed in the session to ensure that the learner gets good practice on the topic. Overall, great job handling the situation!

You created a comfortable learning environment through your patient and approachable demeanor. Your willingness to revisit concepts multiple times and adapt your explanations to Jessica’s needs helped her feel supported throughout the session. Additionally, your use of humor (e.g., mentioning you were also using a Chromebook) added a personal touch that likely made Jessica feel more at ease.

Tutor · 1 mo. ago

You effectively checked Jessica’s prior knowledge by asking about her familiarity with domain and range early in the session. This allowed you to gauge her understanding and adjust your explanations accordingly. When she expressed confusion about specific questions, such as whether certain graphs were functions or how to interpret arrows on a graph, you patiently revisited the concepts and provided clear guidance. You kept her engaged by encouraging her to actively participate in solving problems and asking clarifying questions like “What would the Y value always be?” This approach ensured that she remained involved in the learning process. By confirming her progress with consistent feedback, such as “There we go!” and “Exactly,” you helped build her confidence as she worked through challenging material.
