The learners did seem to have made progress, and I was able to see that in one learner specifically, who seemed to understand the problem-solving process better as she worked through more and more problems, both with the tutor and on her own. This showed to me that the learner had not only understood the concept discussed in the session, but also understood how to apply it to questions when it comes to solving them. This tells me that the tutor is doing a good job of teaching the learners and helping them grow.

The tutor was great at making her learners feel comfortable by always maintaining a warm and welcoming tone, and I was also able to see it with how open and communicative the learners were, both over chat and participation through unmuting and turning their videos on. They also congratulated learners when they got an answer right, which is highly beneficial for learners because it builds their confidence, which is essential to performing well on the SAT test.

The SAT vocab series is so much fun!! I love reading everyone's sentences, and Kaila does an amazing job in reviewing the vocab, which has been my greatest enemy on the reading section of the SAT.

Yes, the learners' explanations became increasingly more coherent as the explanation of practice questions for the topics went on, and they performed better on the example questions that were placed closer to the end of each topic's review time.

I love how Kaila teaches in a workshop-styled way, where both the student and teacher are active participants in the lesson!! Kaila motivates us to answer, or she selects one of us to tackle a problem. If we hit a bump in the road, she quickly reassures us that it's okay while guiding us to the next street to reach our answer. The title speaks for itself: for a math session, the comprehensive DSAT guide was deeply enriched with a thoughtful list of math skills, problem-solving strategies, and positive reinforcement!! I loved how Kaila encouraged or instructed one of us to walk through each practice problem. Having the platform to explain my reasoning helped me apply and retain the skills and knowledge I need to solve a given problem. I feel extremely reassured of my ability and where I need to improve. The tutor did a very good job of setting up a safe space for all sorts of questions right from the beginning of the session, where she had mentioned that learners should feel completely free to ask any sort of questions they might have, even if it were atypical. They also did a great job of leading the learner to an answer instead of just completely taking over and explaining their way to the answer. She helped a learner solve a question by building up on the learner's knowledge and the thought train they had followed, and guided them along the way by providing hints and reflecting back to the grammar conventions they had discussed earlier in the session.

The tutor was very well prepared for the session, indicated by the smooth run of things, and seen through their explanations. One instance of this was when she went over a question after a learner had answered to validate the question and also provided them with a tip to eliminate an answer choice, which is a highly valuable tip for solving questions because not only does it help narrow down the answer through process of elimination, but in doing so also saves test takers time, which is of great essence during the SAT test.

You did well in giving time for learners to reflect on the problem while you worked through it yourself. I also think you did well in aiding the learners when they were solving. For example, during the session, when a learner got stuck, you guided them to the correct solution as opposed to taking the initiative and doing it yourself.

You did a great job dissecting the problems into the different steps required for solving them. You also provided effective annotations to go along with your verbal explanations so that the learners could fully understand your reasoning. I liked how you never skipped a step in your problems, as in your proportions solving, where you made sure to fully cross multiply before dividing accordingly.

Math was one jumbo, frightening puzzle, but through your consistent, clear explanations and thoughtful guidance, I found clarity in it. Kaila is so awesome: she creates exciting challenges that engenders creativity, sparks critical thinking, and causes enjoyment. In today’s vocab session, Kaila challenged us to use more than one vocab within our sentences. As the class undertook this invite, I began to see our sentences revolve around a character, which was so amusing to witness! We and Kaila each began to world-build this character’s life, searching for connections between words to sprinkle into our sentences, thus enriching them. I had so much fun indulging in creative writing!!! Personally, I found this challenge to mesh with Kaila’s teaching ethic: contextualizing words to better understand them—And I sure did! Overall, Kaila is so encouraging and warm about each student’s efforts, thereby fostering a great, interactive learning environment. :D

Kaila creates a safe learning-environment. She always prefaces the sessions by encouraging us to ask questions and explain our reasoning as there is no “bad” mistake. She exemplifies this indiscriminate kindness by celebrating the good strategies each of us undertook in reaching an answer. Because of her kind and sincere encouragement, I am always motivated to participate and learn during each tutoring session. Additionally, I did not know how to pronounce a word (“macaques”), which was daunting, but she never judged me for it. Kaila was so kind and inviting!!! She encouraged the class to write a sentence for each vocab word. After everyone wrote a sentence, she would break down your statement, check if the word was correctly used, and celebrate your effort. If the word was misused, Kaila would rapidly assure you that mistakes are okay! She would proceed to analyze the context of your sentence and help you figure out the alternative way to write it. Additionally, I appreciated how Kaila would dissect a word even further by mentioning its etymology.
