About

Hey everyone! My name is Mia, and I am a junior in high school. I've been homeschooled almost my entire life (except for that one 7 month private school season *shiver*). I love reading and learning languages! I am taking College Composition this year, and I am hoping that I can use my knowledge of the English language to help other students score well on the SAT. I also have some valuable test taking tips that helped me manage time on this test, so I hope to share those with you all as well!

Reading and Writing for the March 2025 SAT

Tuesdays 1:00 AM, Thursdays 1:00 AM

Are you anxious about the test, unsure of the question formats, or just looking for a quick review before the big day? Well then you're in luck. Hey, my name is Mia and I am so looking forward to preparing you all for this upcoming SAT. As an experienced test taker who has studied this exam backwards and forwards, I have a passion to impart this knowledge onto others. I have spent countless hours doing pointless research, and I don't want you all making that same mistake. So I am here to guide you through three things. 1) Introducing you to the R&W SAT and its components 2) Helping you identify weak areas and give you specific targets for self practice 3) Lowering your test anxiety! So come join! I can't wait to begin this awesome prep class with you. And yes, as any good tutor should be, I am an avid Star Wars fan. May the force be with you. This four-week tutoring series will help you prepare for your upcoming SAT in Reading & Writing. By the end of the series, you will have completed multiple practice tests and worked through a number of problems from previous SATs, helping you build confidence for your upcoming exam. You’ll spend each session with me and a small group of other learners who are also working towards taking the SAT. Since it’s a small group, you can expect sessions to be very interactive as you work together towards improving your SAT skills as much as you can! Note: Cameras should be on so we can all get to know each other! If you have a specific reason why you can’t have your camera on, please notify me ahead of time.

Mia, since this was a Live Help session, you didn't have any previous material prepared or any subject in mind before starting the session. But based on your understanding of the question, you demonstrated a great ability to analyze exactly what the question was asking the learner and its purpose. For the first question in the passage, it asked: "What is the mood created?". You effectively explained that the question wanted to invoke the learner's perspective and understanding of the book. Acting as a warm-up to engage the learner in the following questions. Great job :)

There was evidence that the learner made progress, they effectively answered the question once they understood what the prompt meant. Mia did a great job of breaking down what the question asked into an easier prompt which made it easier for Sudiksha to answer the question. In the end, she was able to answer both of the questions that she had difficulty with with the help of Mia.

I understand that this is a Live Help session and evaluating a learner's prior knowledge on a book that aren't familiar with is difficult. However, there were some opportunities to ask questions that evaluated the learner's knowledge before the session. As a warm-up, you could've asked the learner to provide a quick summary of the book to analyze the learner's understanding of the given material. You did a great job of exhibiting the learner's knowledge after addressing the first question and made sure that the learner was driving the question rather than most of the work coming from the tutor.

I liked how you improved upon her ideas and offered different insights. I also like how you deeply explained the personal analysis questions and let her know that there is no right or wrong answer.
