Chem Club is BACK for the 2024/25 school year! This series is for all you chemistry enthusiasts to learn new and exciting topics typically not typically taught in schools and to share your passion of chemistry with others. We have kickstarted the series again with the incoming school year and are excited to continue engaging with our thriving chemistry community! For those who are new, each week, we will cover a new topic and have a fun quiz at the end of the session to challenge our knowledge. The winner of the game gets to pick next week's topic! For instance, in our previous series we covered topics like shampoos, textiles, forensics and even nuclear chemistry! Welcome to a series dedicated completely to IB HL Chemistry exam prep! I see you IB learners - as a former IB student myself, it's sometimes hard to find resources or information regarding the course! In this series, I'll go through the course and highlight tips that helped me score a 7 in the subject. We'll not only go through the content, but we'll link it back to the requirements of the exam as well, so if you're a May 2024 HL Chem exam taker, this series is for you! Please note that we won't be learning topics completely from scratch; this will work off the assumption that you have at least learnt the topic in class and would like to review the concepts. However, any doubts you have will hopefully be clarified as we move through the series, and you should feel very prepared for your exams in May :) November 2024 IB takers - feel free to join as well! Just note that you may not have covered a couple of the topics so in those lessons, so it may seem completely unfamiliar. Please don't hesitate to message me with questions! This series serves as a chem community engagement series hosted by the moderators to bring a stronger sense of community and connections between members of the chem subworld. Each week we will cover a new topic and play fun games such as Kahoot!s to challenge our knowledge. We will cover: - Differentiating a range of functions & identifying the rule(s) needed to do so (e.g. power, chain, product & quotient rule) - Applying differentiation to many types of problems. This includes finding stationary points of curves, rates of change (& related rates), etc. [we will not be covering kinematics since this is best explained after learning integration] Throughout the series, learners will be able to practice applying their learning to different problems and will gain the independence to tackle these problems with ease. This is a fast-paced course that is also useful if you are looking to start calculus next year and would like to get a head start or need to review calculus if you think you struggled with it / need to refresh your brain on it, or even if you just want to learn differential calculus! Despite being quick, it is very comprehensive and should be useful for any high school student! No prior knowledge of calculus is required. Additionally, if you feel a bit confused about any of the explained concepts, you may always reach out to me and I will support you, be it with impromptu sessions or otherwise :D
