About

Hello everyone, my name is Joseph. I am a homeschooled high school junior from China yet taking an American program. I am the Founder and Moderator of the Reading and Writing Subworld.

On Schoolhouse, I like to tutor English literature, ancient history&culture/mythology, Chinese, and community events. My sessions are full of joy and laughter because I like to insert games into my session and I enjoy chatting with my learners about anything.

My best subjects in school are history, geography, and English, but please do not ask me to tutor you in STEM, that is my weak spot.

I played the instrument Hulusi (gourd flute) a traditional Chinese instrument and reached the top level in 2022; I also have fundamental knowledge of piano and the Chinese bamboo flute.

I also make a lot of art with ink pen and gouache. I have been attempting digital art recently and really enjoyed it!

In my free time, I also play video games; I am a huge Honor of Kings fan :)

I am a very active tutor on Schoolhouse and I love to make friends! Feel free to reach out with anything you might need help with and I am willing to lend a hand if it is within my power.

The Official Reading and Writing Game Night Series II

    39th session

Hello, all members of the R&W Subworld, welcome to the weekly game night series! This series will be hosted twice a week at 7 PM EST on Friday and 7 AM EST on Sunday to reach more learners around the world. You may join as many sessions as you want, just remember to enjoy yourself! This series will be a little bit different from our first official game night (https://schoolhouse.world/series/16213). Every week, we will have a topic for the game, ranging from literature to movies, and our games will be based on these topics; I am open to suggestions! We will play various of creative games like Garticphone, Skribl.io, Gimkit, and more! This will be a great place to make friends and get to know the moderators better! We are not those behind-the-scene scary-masked rulers...but cheerful outgoing people that want to know you better also!

Study Room! [STILL OPEN]

    218th session

Welcome to THE study room! Sessions might not be hosted every day but we will put in as much as we can, and due to multiple co-hosts, the session time will not always be the same. If you guys have any questions about any homework, feel free to directly message us or other attendees in the chat for help! Feel free to put the things you are looking forward to getting done at the beginning of the session and update us if you managed to complete them at the end. We will be accepting music suggestions! *NOTE: Turning your camera on would be preferred; this series is intended for us to get our tasks done. We will be accountable to each other and ensure we are getting what we need to be done! Zachary, Joseph, and Queena

I'm American born Chinese, so I've always wanted to learn Mandarin Chinese, including how to write characters. Excluding the times when I was really young, I only learned how to write characters regarding stroke order, never the spacing or the size. This was kind of the first time in a while I started learning those aspects again, so thank you!

Thank you for greeting the early learners by name! This is a fairly large session, so it's nice to establish that sense of community. It's nice that you established the boundary about not searching up answers but kept a light attitude about the fact that some learners may search them up anyway. You also add a lot of little jokes throughout the session that lighten up any tension that may have been there, since a lot of these learners have never met one another. As for strengthening learner confidence, you're not really going through practice questions, so I've marked N/A for the category.

-The learners are not learning anything new in this session! The Jeopardy game itself is a check of their understanding of Humanities topics, so there's no need to check their prior knowledge. -This is a large session that is meant to imitate a game show. Thus, it does not seem necessary to adapt to the learners' specific needs. -This session is constructed such that all of the learners (that wanted to be competitors) are engaged. They all got to take turns choosing a category and answering questions within that category. Overall, the learners seemed to have a lot of fun! -This is an unconventional (community) type of session, but you still do a great job at checking the learners' progress! After each major point that you make, such as reading the directions, you ask the learners if they have any questions so that you can move on. This definitely proved to be helpful because some of the learners did not fully grasp the directions, which would have given their competitors an unfair advantage.

Hi Joseph! Thank you for hosting this session about Chinese History. I am very impressed by the efforts you put in preparation for this session. Rather than doing Google Slides, I liked how you use Canva to design your presentation. This is my favorite tool, that allows me to include beautiful visuals onto the slides making my audience more engaged while listening. In your session, I liked how you made the background color to brown illustrating a scene at a museum for an ancient historical work. Furthermore, I can tell that you also spent lots of time in choosing the visuals for your session. Like the pig on slide #3, it’s definitely a great choice that reflects the time period you are talking about. Other than that, you clearly did your research in finding and researching about the facts about Chinese history. For the later slides about the origin, it is sophisticated yet summarized in a way that allows your learners to understand. Overall, great work!
