About

This series covers the NJ standards for high school maths topics typically taught in Algebra I. It is designed for both: people who struggled with math in the past and need a bit of a helping hand to guide them throughout the school year and build confidence, and people who want to get a headstart in Algebra I. You will all be given a Virtual Notebook for all important notes, and a Virtual Workbook for problems we'll work on during the sessions (both in the form of Slides).

✋ ATTENDANCE POLICY

This course builds upon itself, so it's imperative that you get back on track as soon as possible if you're absent from any session.

If you expect to be absent from a session, let me know beforehand. If you are are absent from 3 sessions without notifying me beforehand, or are absent from 12 total sessions, you will be withrawn from the series.

About the Tutor

I am a high school senior. I have a passion for computer science, astrophysics, and history. I am joining Schoolhouse to be able to share some of my knoweldge with others who need it the most, while at the same time trying to get help in areas I need help in as well. Science education in the U.S. is really dumbed down and slow, so I taught myself some advanced topics for an 11th grader thanks to how accessible all this information is nowadays, especially Khan Academy! I speak English, Spanish (somewhat fluent), and French (somewhat fluent).

Session 1

Orientation

1. We will introduce ourselves via the Wheel of Ice Breakers™. Everyone will spin a total of two times (one at a time) and get to answer whatever question they got. You can always pass a question and we'll move on to another person. 2. You will complete the Algebra I Pretest that will be posted during the session. The test will consist of two sections: Section 1 will cover topics that you (should) have been taught beforehand, and Section 2 will cover topics that you will learn about in an Algebra I class. It should take about 25 minutes to complete. 3. Once all the tests have been submitted, we will go over all the Section 1 questions that were answered incorrectly during the remainder of the session. The Section 2 questions are just for me to gauge how well you know some of the Algebra I material already, so we will not go over the Section 2 questions. 3.a. The priority of the questions that will be reviewed will be based on how many people answered them incorrectly.
